As far as I know with the Chevy/GMCs (for the current gen, not the new 2020s on the horizon), the 2500HD and 3500HD SRW Diesels are identical except for 3 things:

    Springs
    Rims
    Tires
    (stickers)

Now, that being said, those are the exact 3 things that directly impact the payload rating between the 2 (about 1400# difference from 2100# to 3500# when comparing Diesel Denalis - I have the pictures of payload stickers if you need it).

I make the distinction of the diesels because you get a different (smaller) rear-end if you get a gas 2500HD. The 3500HD gets the heavier rear-end with gas or diesel. As stated, if looking at a diesel, skip the 2500HD unless it is very burdensome for other reasons to get the 3500HD. In my opinion, due to the very low payload of the 3/4 ton Diesels (low 2000s) - they are flat out not suitable for the majority of fifth wheels despite what we see people doing on the roads every day. As an example, the unloaded pin weight on Reflection 311BHS fifth wheels is in the 2100# area. This will only go up once loaded. This would have put my former truck (2018 GMC 2500HD Denali Duramax - 2144# payload per sticker) AT ITS LIMIT before the hitch is in the truck bed, before I am sitting in the driver seat, before ANYTHING is loaded in the truck. The 3/4 ton Diesels can be a great fit for TRAVEL TRAILERS but are not suited to Fifth Wheels - but even then, with a decent amount of tools in the truck and loaded for camping, my truck still would have been at its limits with the 312BHTS we were originally looking at.

I agree a properly optioned 3/4-ton and 1-ton SRW are nearly identical. I sympathize with those who got a 3/4-ton diesel without realizing the "sticker" payload limits and have to struggle with the idea that someday, somehow, that sticker might get used against them in some way. That being said, lots of folks are running 3/4-ton trucks with 5ers heavy enough to eclipse the sticker payload capacity of even the SRW 1-ton trucks.

The Specs are based on the GVWR as I highlighted on the prev image

When building a 350 6.2 on the Ford Site it does not allow you to select a GVWR greater that 10000 without going to a 6.7 Diesel, so in order to get more payload you need more GVWR based on their specs

If Ford allowed you select a higher GVWR then you could get more payload making the 350 a higher payload number

I guess if you don't have to select the GCWR option on the web site, how do you know exactly what you get and what the payload is, does anyone have a 2019 350 6.2 350 4x4 CC with more payload than 3200

I stand corrected, I came across a 2019 350 4x4 CC 6.2L SRW that had a payload 3977, I saw the door jam sticker with my own eyes. The guy did know anything about his truck and he did not know what options he requested when he ordered from Ford. He would have to order the truck with a GVWR of 11,300 to 14,000 to get that high of payload. All he knew was he had 16,000 towing capacity to tow his 40+' North Point 5er which he stated got him through the Rocky Mountains without issues.

    My 2018 350 4x4 CC 6.2L SRW Lariat w/ 5th wheel prep. 10,900 GVWR, 3720 payload.

P.S. the GVWR selection on the Ford build site are de-ratings. The Ford supplemental order guide will help you determine what your standard GVWR will be with different configurations (wheelbase, cab, engine, drive, tires, etc). The guide was right-on, specifying 10,900 GVWR based on my configuration. It will also give you the max payload for that configuration. In my case max payload was 4,260 lbs for a stripped down XL with no options. Lariat w/ my options dropped actual payload down to 3,720 lb payload.

The supplemental order guide will show you clearly that gas 350s have significantly MORE payload than 250s unless you choose to de-rate your 350 payload. If you de-rate a gas 350 to 10K GVWR, then you will have less payload than an identically spec'd 250 because of the small additional weight of the springs and any other minor difference between a 250 and 350. I tried to attach the guide, but you can easily find it through searching for (pick your year) superduty supplemental order guide
