    Sagging Coroplast and Surface Rust

    1. I noticed the coroplast is sagging and open on the front-end of my undercarriage. I think I may be catching air (hoping I am not catching water spray) and am afraid of it getting worse. I also noticed surface rust is growing. I am thinking of unbolting coroplast along the front and trying to run a strip of something rigid (metal/plastic) to hold it up and seal it. I will simply use the same bolt pattern to hold up the strip — any suggestions on material? Anyone done something like this before? 2. Surface rust, any tips for treating before it gets worse. See pics. Also seeing it under pin box. I also am seeing it on the frame where the suspension is. I am nervous about welds being affected. Ideas to address?

    I'm using this product
    http://www.corroseal.com/
Requires a surface free of oil/grease, dirt and loose rust. I'm nearly finished brushing on the entire frame, axles and suspension. Need to make sure a nice thick coat is applied. It turned rust to black magnetite within an hour or so. Etches the existing paint providing a primer coat. Water based, easy clean up, not toxic. Well, you can't drink it or inhale it if you spray it. Can be sprayed with an undercoating gun I suppose, haven't tried that. I'm pretty impressed with it so far.

Looks like you've got a bit of a scoop up front that could have collected road spray. I'd drop that coroplast far enough to check for wet insulation if there's any there. I sealed the leading edge of my coroplast by adding some more screws and washers, then applying 4 inch Gorilla tape after ensuring the surface was clean.

I've had success with Rustoleum Rust Reformer on surface rust. Spray it on, it dries black and then paint over it.

ID:	20625After dropping the coroplast it is hard to get it back up without a few wrinkles. I’ve used a few short pieces of aluminum flat plate to flatten the wrinkles and 5 aluminum channel pieces along the length. I used 11/2 inch self tapping screws as the originals are not long enough. Also caulked both coroplast edges the full length each side to seal it and attacked all signs of rust with black rustoleum paint. The only head scratcher now is how will I detect a water leak. I thought of putting a couple of round 1/2” drains in the middle of the coroplast but thought of it too late.

Rust converter, spray paint over the rust. I do it twice a year, if you keep up with it there isn't much to do after the first couple of times. Same with the exterior bolts and screw heads, they rust out as well because they use cheap stuff.

Finally fixed sagging/scooping Coroplast. I bought a solid piece of exterior vinyl/pvc trim, bevel cut it and bolted it on with significant overlap of the Coroplast. Prior to bolting on the trim I sanded off all loose rust, coated the whole area with Corroseal rust converter and then coated it with Rustoleum. Cleaned up nice. Thanks for all the helpful advice.
