2019 GMC 2500 Sierra Denali Hitch Receiver

My husband just surprised me with a new truck. I measured the opening in the hitch receiver and it is 2 3/4 inch. That is not standard for buying an adapter for a 2 inch hitch. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

You likely measured incorrectly and have a 2.5" class V hitch reciever.

My receiver is also close to 2 3/4" allowing hitch bars room to slide into it. If he bought the truck new, it should have come with an adaptor for the hitch. Check under the rear seat for the adaptor

Ours was in the center console with a hitch pin in a small box, I would think one would come with it. If not maybe ask the dealer if it was maybe taken out when they cleaned the truck for delivery?

I disliked using the adapter and bought a native 2.5" shank to mount my hitch onto. Just something to consider. Be forewarned, the 2.5" shank is a seriously heavy chunk of steel.

I use the 2 1/2 hitch shank because of the larger weight limits allowed over the 2” shank. Much heavier for sure, but am able to handle it so far.

I didn't like the adapter either. It's a pain to get all the pieces to line up so you can push the pin in. I bought the 2.5" shank for my Equal-i-zer and I'm much happier despite the extra weight.

Is it much more weight though? Compare 2.5" shank with 2" shank + adapter.
