Burt, Ultimately, this will be your choice-how you want to spend your money, but these dealers do a very uncomfortable HARD sell on these extended warranties. Our dealer never gave us a copy on ours (we declined much of what they were trying to sell us, getting the cost down to $1300 from over $6000). A year after purchase, when we finally had copies of the contracts in hand, we discovered there were more exclusions than covered items. It really does appear that higher-priced typical RV maintenance repairs are still on you, cheaper if you can do them yourself. If we had it to do over again, we’d have stuck to our practice of declining any and all extended warranty purchases. Better off spending the money on roadside assistance and solid insurance coverage.

I've always declined any type of extended warranty. Reason being, I always buy new vehicles or RV's and I feel like within the normal manufacturers warranty period, you will get an idea if the item will be problematic or not. Additionally, I am pretty handy and can fix most things that crop up.

They're not really warranties but rather insurance policies. If you use the search function, you will find this topic discussed numerous times on the forum. As stated, there are pros and cons. Search, read and enjoy.

    Burt,

RV Reviews has a good publication on the pros & cons of RV warranties. The only drawback is they charge for it. I popped for it before I bought my Solitude & it provided a lot of very useful information. Here is a link to their website: https://rvreviews.net/rv-warranty-guide/

The bottom line is the RV dealers make loads of money on selling you an extended warranty at their markup price! I ultimately declined all of the dealer add-ons & found our extended warranty & roadside assistance from a third party. Their prices are far more competitive than the dealer’s warranty. (If you want to test this theory out, just ask the dealer how much they paid for the warranty they offer, and how much they are selling it to you!)

I went with Wholesale Warranties, here is a link to their website: https://wholesalewarranties.com/ They also offer emergency roadside services.

    Good luck! -Diego

Extended warranties are insurance policies as such there is an adjuster contacted to review the repair when expensive repairs are in the works. This takes time. So, if you aren't in a hurry it's no big deal.

Most the time things become apparent during the warranty period and get handled. Then around 5-7 years you start getting things worn out. The 2-5 year period is generally care free, not always. Most single incident repairs I have had range between $500 and $2000. A lot of stuff I just fix myself.

I have an extended warranty for my Momentum. We plan on hanging on to it for 7-10 years and there are some fancy new (expensive) systems that I may not be able to fix. Will I ever get my money back? I kind of hope not, if I do, that means I have had a major breakdown/repair. In our case, this would mean finding an alternate place to live while the repair is being made.

There is no right answer here. It's a gamble either way.

We bought the extended warranties, well, most of them. We cancelled them about a year and a half in. Too many exclusions, and my husband is very skillful at repairs.
