    Glacier NP

Heading for West Glacier next month from Crowley Lake, CA.
Probably going highways 395>95>80>95 to just south of Caldwell, ID.
Looks like there's 2 main choices from there to West Glacier.
    Weiser>Grangeville>Missoula or Salmon>Missoula

Which one would you take considering views, road conditions, etc?

    Thanks,
    John

John, last summer we did Glacier slightly different. We were I80 West to Wells, North on #93 all the way to Kalispell. The return was Hwy #2 through Libby MT and Bonner's Ferry to see friends then South on #95 to Caldwell. All roads are pretty and yes, some hills but no big deal.
Not sure of your plans but Ambassador RV in Caldwell is nice since you mentioned it and if you go East instead, Arco has decent KOA....decent not resort. Don't forget Crater's of the Moon National Park. There are so many nice places to go and see!

Thanks Gold, like your I80 to Wells idea, it may be a few more miles than 6, but if I remember right, 6 through Ely is a whole lot of nothing.

Well, our place in Ca is close to #395 so we go via #88 at Carson Pass elev 8,600 which drops us into Gardnerville. We are much further North than you so #395 to #50 East to Silver Springs avoids Reno area, North to Fernley on #95 which dumps out to #80 . Fastest way for us.

BTW, at Continental Divide, Idaho/Montana, highway #93 @ #43 , Chief Joseph Pass is a long somewhat steep downhill into Bitterroot Valley.

We go west to Wells and up to Jackpot NV for our first stop. then up through Salmon ID and over to Bitterroot Valley and up it Missoula, MT. Then on up to Glacier. Its a very scenic drive and plenty of spots to stop. We did do Glacier back down to Jackpot once in a day using that route, but it was a very long day and a late night arrival at the casino RV Park in Jackpot, so we just boondocked in their over flow parking area.

I'll second the Ambassador RV park. Really nice, long gravel pads and concrete areas with a table. Also stayed in Arco, seeing the Craters of the Moon and the EBR-1 nuke reactor (I worked for the company that made glass windows for hot cells at one time). Stayed at the KOA in West Glacier. Large place close to the park.
