    Hot weather Towing

My wife, Janice and I are going to be towing our 337 RLS from Mesa to Holbrook, AZ in 105 degree temperatures on US 87 thru Payson, AZ. Our truck is a 2018 GMC All Terrain HD 3500 SRW. Just looking for some feedback on that.
    Thanks,
    Janice and Frank

Truck should not be an issue, I just keep the speed down and stop every few hours to check the trailer tires

No issues on the truck which is tested not only in AZ but also in Death Valley. Check your cold tire pressures and enjoy your travels.

Is your truck modified at all? The only difference the heat makes on mine is in the pyro temp. Pulled in the high 90's once and my water methanol injection wasn't working, I was down to 3rd gear on a hard pull just to keep the egt's under 1300 degrees. I doubt a stick truck will have any problems, like the others have stated.

We just got back from a short trip from Las Vegas to San Diego. On the I15 coming across the Mojave Desert, the outside temp was 113 deg. I have a TPMS system that also monitors tire temp. I highly recommend one for your travels. Anyway, on the road, my tire pressures went from 110 psi to 121 on the sunny side and 119 on the shady side. The temp on the sunny side went as high as 129 deg. We kept a close eye on them but didn't have an issue. If the temp got into the mid-130 I would have been a bit more concerned. As we climbed in elevation, the ambient temp dropped to 99 deg at the summit and the tire pressures and temp dropped considerably. Bottom line is get a TPMS system and keep an eye on things. At a minimum, get a infrared temp gun and check your tires at every stop. BTW, the truck could not care less...

Here's the infrared gun I use on things the TPMS can't monitor (mostly wheel hubs and now disc rotors after upgrading).
    Note the 5% off coupon.

Also it's important to let the turbo cool down before shutting off the engine. This is easy to forget at rest areas.

    I agree with LV Naturist......

Just came across US 160 to I40 to SoCal Tuesday.....outside temps as high as 114.

We also have TPMS with temp and saw similar results, high of 123 tire temp and 10-12 lbs gain in pressure.

The truck had absolutely no issues....even pulling that I40 monster Westbound out of Needles.....truck water temp never got above 225, trans temp high was 232, and oil temp got up to 241.

All the above is while hauling a** at 65 - 68 all the way home........814 miles in 13:42 driving time.

Watch your gauges and have a good time/trip.

Just like Calnca does, we have the original Westlake G rated tires with about 2,000 miles and have not had an issue. If they're the G's, just make sure the pressures are correct and keep an eye on them, not unlike any other tire.
