    Double tow with 28BH

Anybody towing anything behind their 28BH? This is the perfect trailer for us, but the hitch is only rated for 300 pounds payload and the videos I’ve seen are pretty clear that this is essentially a bike rack hitch. Anybody using this hitch to tow a proper toy?

Looking back at some other threads on this topic, sounds like the hitch is woefully inadequate. I need to either reinforce the existing hitch or add a new one altogether. Anybody done so with a 28BH?

I don't think any of the Grand Design frames are approved for towing double. The hitch is only intended for a bike rack or cargo carrier.

The late 19's are now. Rated to tow 3000 lbs and have a flat 4 wire connector

Nice. I didn't know they'd made that upgrade.

The jarring of 300lbs of bikes on the back wouldn't you think the force of that would be greater then a 100lbs tongue weight of a 17' fishing boat?

Someone weigh in on that one.

Also wonder if they did any thing special to 2019 frame to give it the tow rating.

With that being said wonder if adding welds to the existing hitch and somewhere to add chains to hook to. Would be enough?

Yep, the one I'm looking at is a 2020 and when I reached out to GD, they confirmed the 3k towing capacity and 300 hitch weight.

Ok, so y'all got my curious and I needed to see how this thing was attached. I went outside to look at mine (Build date Jul 2018) and mine shows it is a class 4 hitch with 3500 lbs tow capacity with 350 lb hitch weight on the hitch sticker but the sticker on the coach shows 300 lbs. It has spots to hook chains on (which my bike locks run through) and is welded to the frame. I have nothing to ever double tow but I do watch my bikes on the bike rack do a happy dance every time I hit a bump and it makes me cringe every time I see it. I know I'm upgrading our bike hitch after this trip.
