Inverter project
We took delivery of our new Reflection 29RS a couple weeks ago, and I've been working on several projects (TV, sound bar, etc) to make her our new home away from home. One big project was the installation of a Magnum Energy 2800 watt pure sine wave inverter, and 4 golf cart battery bank. I finally finished the installation this weekend, rerouting the 50 amp wiring into the inverter/charger and running a new 50 amp line into the fuse box. It works like a champ. I tested the inverter first, streaming youtube videos, and then plugged in the shore power. After a few seconds, the inverter seamlessly switched over to shore power and started bulk charging the batteries. The video never skipped a beat.
The charger on this beast is just plain awesome. Even off the Honda 2000w generator, it will push nearly 100 amps into the battery bank, way way more than the stock converter.
Now, we'll watch our normal power consumption over a period of time, and add the appropriate amount of solar in the coming months. Oh, and we love this fifth wheel.
I can share more details about the components and the project, if interested.

This is exactly what I'd like to do. I'd be very interested in a list of all your components. Thanks much,
Jim

Very nice. That's similar to our setup. We have the Pro-sine 2000 inverter charger and 4 AGM 6 volt batteries.

Treeofliberty,
We should be taking delivery of our 29RS next month. The inverter project is one of our top 3 on the list. I have seen several Utubes, but would love to learn what you did on your rig. Great job!

Here are the parts I used for the project, in no particular order:
Blue Sea Systems ANL Fuse Block with Insulating Cover - 35 - 300A
Blue Sea Systems 5133 300A ANL Fuse
Blue Sea Systems m-Series Mini Dual Circuit Battery Switch, Black
MAGNUM ME-RC50 REMOTE PANEL
Magnum MS2812 2800W Inverter with 125 Amp Charger
Crimp Supply Ultra-Flexible Car Battery/Welding Cable - 4/0 Gauge, (10 Feet Red/10 Feet Black) - and 5 Copper Lugs
3 of Pico 4739C 4/0 AWG Battery Cable 3/8" Tubular Lug Ring / Eye Terminals 10 Per Package
Ideal 30-030 Noalox Anti-Oxidant Compound, Squeeze Bottle, 8 oz
TEMCo Hammer Lug Crimper Tool 5 Year Warranty
TEMCo Wire and Cable Cutter - 4/0 (0000 Gauge) (120 mm˛) Capacity 12 in. Handles Electrical Tool 5 YEAR WARRANTY
F4 Tape Self-fusing Silicone Tape 1" x .020" x 36' - Red Oxide
F4 Tape Self-fusing Silicone Tape 1" x .020" x 36' - Black
40 feet of 6/3 wiring (for the 120v wiring)
Bogart Engineering Trimetric TM-2030-RV
25 feet of 4-wire cable (for the Trimetric)
Century Plastics: Heavy Duty Battery Box - Holds (4) 6 Volt Golf Cart
4 Trojan T-105 batteries
I think that is it. Most of this was ordered through Amazon, with free Prime shipping. I found that making my own battery cables was easy and fun. And having very short 12v runs with 4/0 cable makes the charger work like a champ.

Nice setup. One word of caution - those batteries are heavy so you'll need to watch for sagging in that front compartment. I needed to reinforce mine.

Was it fairly easy to pull the wire down to the battery compartment? And where?

After pulling back the flexible wall that shielded the bowels of the trailer (on the rear side of the large storage compartment), I was able to find the right wiring. I ran two tubes of flexible shielding through the gap in that flexible wall, and drilled 1 1/4 inch holes in the bulkhead to penetrate the battery compartment. It wasn't difficult. You just need to plan the holes carefully, to avoid wiring on the battery compartment side, and avoid the metal rim at the top, holding the particle board in place.

You did exactly what I'm wanting to. My plan is to start out with a generator for bringing the batteries back to charge, then going to solar when I feel brave enough to start putting holes into the roof.
The hardest price to swallow is the inverter, I've been trying to find an electric supply that wouldn't be as costly.
Did you just split the 50 amp in place and splice into that? I think that would have been the way I would have went for simplicity.2015 Laramie 3500 MegaCab 4x4 DRW Maximum Steel
