can you cut the handle off the power cord

    Hi all,
Just wondering if I can cut the handle off of the power cord so that way the cover off my Progressive EMS can completely close.
    Has anyone cut theirs?

I imagine you could but if the cord is still under warranty I would leave it. I made a loose cover for the EMS to protect the open area.

I dont think I'd want to cut it. Some receptacles or dog bone connectors are pretty tight and you will need that handle to separate them. I suppose if you will only plug it into your EMS and you can separate the two without the handle then it shouldn't matter if you cut it off.

On one of my last trips I saw a gentleman put a bucket over his EMS. Power cord was similar to yours. He had slit the bucket down the side and to the middle of the bottom where he had a hole to fit around the top of the power cord where is comes out of the EMS. It totally hid the EMS . He taped the slit after installing to make it somewhat water tight. I did not think much of it at the time, but now can see it would be handy. The bucket was pretty flexible from what I remember - maybe one of those rubber ones horse folk use.

    Hope this helps

Are these Progressive Industries EMS units not waterproof? I have a friend that just bought one, and on the first outing it filled up with water. Is it normal to have to cover them?

I had the portable version for a year before I switched to hardwired. At the time we lived in our Momentum and it stayed out in the rain without being covered, no issues.

They pretty much are if the lid is closed. The OP's handle on his power cord holds it open so water could get in. The bucket I mentioned hid the entire unit.

Are you a handy kind of camper? You can make a new, extended cover with a sheet of kydex, an oven and a heat gun.
