There are several versions of these, but you have to remember that you will have to assemble/disassemble this hoist and store it away (probably beside the 5th wheel hitch in the truck bed). The lightest versions of these are sold as "game hoists" and could easily lift the weight of a propane tank, but would require a hook on the end of the cable that would connect to the propane tank handle.

This would require that you be able to get the back of the truck close to one or the other or both of the propane compartments.

Just thinking out of the box here.
We thought about trying something like that but unfortunately our propane compartment is too small to accommodate it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I agree the herculift you referenced is the best option but Dennis didn't want to spend that much. If the LEVator doesn't work out we might transition to the herculift down the road.

Thanks again Rob for another helpful suggestion! Because the truck hitch hoist would require close access we kept looking at game hoists as you suggested and that's when we found the Viking LE Vator. It's pretty simple, light and compact to carry and cheap so we're gonna try it. Dennis thinks he can add wheels so we can push it from the FW to the back of the truck. If it works I'll post pictures and maybe the idea will help someone else.

This definitely would work if we need to try it down the road. Thanks for the suggestion.

Combining a couple of ideas here . . . if you went to 20 lb tanks, there would be room for a small "block and tackle" (think small sailboat mainsail blocks) inside the propane compartment above the shorter tank.
