I Want to add a third water pump switch in the bath

    Good morning folks

Was dry camping this weekend (only electric) and discovered what a pain it is to go down the stairs and turn the water pump on to use the bathroom at night. I don't have the pump on all the time, only when needed.

Has anyone installed a third switch in their bath room?. I'm guessing it needs to be a 4 way. I can get to the wiring in the basement for one of the switches on the nautilus panel and can probably fish a wire up through one of the bath walls (sliding door one) as there is other wiring running there now.

As I am not the best with wiring - does anyone know how to do this and the type of switch I will need?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Keith,

No expertise here, but I found this on the web:

    http://www.rvdoctor.com/2010/09/addi...tch-in-rv.html

I also did a couple of quick searches for an RV style 4-way switch (you need one) but didn't see anything, only residential-style switches.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the link. Yep all I found were residential too. I am going to try some of the boating supply places and e-trailer.

Is there a reason you don't leave it on?

Haven't changed any wiring. I think my water pump is wired the same as klenger's, just a couple of wire color differences.

Just in case of a leak overnight.

    Thanks Gene
This will give me a good start. If I get this working I will update the drawing.

Right now finding a 15 amp or 20 amp 4 way 12 volt lighted switch is the problem. I want a lighted one so I know it is on.

I’d suggest a momentary switch in the bathroom. It would simply bypass the other two and directly power the pump. No problem holding the switch since you use your foot to flush and has the added bonus of automatically turning off when you go to bed. Washing hands might require a little more creativity.

I would rather have a leak with the pump on, than a leak when on city hookup. At least you'll here the pump run. We leave our pump on the whole time.
