No sound from Right interior speaker on FM radio - how to diagnose?

For the speaker wires, wondered what gauge is installed, like 18, 20 Awg?

Yep - 18 or 20 - its pretty thin stuff. I pulled the solar controller and found a bunch or wires, just not the speaker wires (they must be behind the sewer vent piping going to the roof, so I need to unpack the basement and check the wiring there. At least they are color coded so I know which one to look for and test.

Success - wasn't easy, but I found the problem.

Look carefully and it will jump out at you. Must have been a Friday 4:30 PM wiring job.

So folks know if you have a stereo, etc in a slide you will see a bundled cable disappear in to the belly of the beast. This is what I found after removing a jack and rolling back the plastic. The orange wire nuts are the fix.


Once I cut the bad connectors and actually match wire colors I went inside - it worked.


In one of the pictures are two coax connections - they were both loose.

So I have finished re bundling the wires and secured them, re attacked the belly plastic and resealed everything. The wiring was a loose mess so I made sure the foam sealant tied them in place.

Hopefully this helps folks know where the hidden wire junction can be found.

Now can anyone recommend any good 6" speakers to replace the stock ones?

I got some jbl GX628 6.5" speakers at best buy. They're 2-way but they have a 3-way as well. I'm okay with them, but they're honestly not great. It's got more to do with being in the ceiling and the radio though.

When I installed them I found one was out of phase and the mounting reinforcement on the other was shifted out of place. I have to widen the hole on that one to get the speaker in. It's all hidden by the speaker, though.
