New 297rsts has soft area on roof and unable to open black tank

We just purchased our 297rsts. My husband got on the roof and there is a soft area. Anyone else have this problem? We returned camper to dealer. Will my rig need to go back to manufacturer for a new roof? We couldn't get the black tank value to open at all. Dealer will have to address it too. I am very worried about the roof. Any experiences? Thanks! Janice

Hi Janice, I don't recall any soft roof issues but that doesn't mean there are none. Keep in contact with your dealer and if you think they aren't doing what you feel needs to be done don't hesitate to call GD customer service. As for the black tank there are posts with the valve either sticking, blocked by debri or hard to work due to poor routing from the factory. If it has to go back for roof work rest assured they do an excellant job at the repair facility, often the trailer returns even better than when it left.

No roof issues that I found on our 2019 297RSTS, but have not walked every inch of it either. What is the location of the soft spot?

My black value was hard to pull out the 1st time as well, once i finally got it open I cleaned it good and have not experienced any further issues.

Ours has always had areas on the roof that give more than others, primarily between the trusses. I don’t know if I would call it “soft”. Could that be what your husband is feeling?

The valve issue will be an easy fix for the dealer or manufacturer if it does go back.

I find the same thing that the areas between the trusses feel less firm. I would almost say spongy but not soft as in rotten wood soft.

Totally agree with you Rob. Spongy is the word.

X3 on the spongy feeling. I just returned from our shakedown trip last weekend and did not have any problems with the black tank dump valve.

Thanks to everyone for the replys to my post. I appreciate it. The dealer dealt with the black water tank pull valve, now it works okay. The roof was considered fine.
