Those are factory, I just added the two pieces in the middle. It’s 90% better now. Just a real small amount of flex left. BTW I’m 240lbs. The only trick to it is fishing them into position and then rotating them upright. I used the non plywood area by the drain to size them up and as a space to rotate them. I’d recommend some adhesive to keep them from ever moving. I rubbed liquid nails into the end grain but it still gets a little messy as you can see. Overall it took 20 minutes and I feel it’s never gonna give me any problems.

I'm right there in your weight range so that is good news that it made a good improvement. By your picture, it actually makes that area look finished off. I wouldn't say it was messy at all. Granted, my hand wasn't the one in there trying to set the boards either. I plan on doing it this weekend, so I'll get to see if I can keep it as neat as yours. When it comes to glues, I can make a big mess.

If I wanted to do this (the “give” to the floor does bug me a bit, but we haven’t broken it yet), I would go to a home store and find a nice register cover/cold return cover that was complimentary to the decor. With that in hand, you could mark the wall and enlarge the opening (I’d use my Rockwell tool (can’t remember generic name).

NEW FIX!!!


I, finally, got a chance to get under there and take a good, hard look at what was going on.

Being lazy, I have found a simpler solution.


Cut 2"X6" boards 18" long and stack them across the FRONT of the drain, between it and the access cover.

(I think I used five or six of them. The trailer is in the shop for more axle problems, so I can't look.)


The 6" base gives plenty of support to the front of the shower and completely eliminates flex around the drain.

The 18" length is as long as I could cut it and still get it into place.


No need to glue, wedge or nail.

Easily removed for plumbing access.

Thanks for this tip! I did the same thing this weekend! I hope it helps to support the shower pan. Hard to believe it had so little support. I will report that to Grand Design. The floor of the shower was so soft and pliable. I was afraid it would break through soon .. or cause the drain connection to fail. This should really help!
