    2020 GMC 2500 with 3500 Capacities

GM will soon be producing 2500 pickups that blow up the distinction between 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. In looking at the GMC website last night, I learned that the Sierra 2500HD will have a max GVWR of 11,550 pounds. That exceeds the max GVWR of a SRW F-350! The max GVWR of a SRW 3500HD will be 12,250 pounds.

This actually upsets everything we thought we knew about the differences between 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. GMC will now have some 2500s that are class 2 trucks and other 2500s that are class 3 trucks competing in the same weight class with their own 3500s. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind it.

Maybe we are headed towards a single HD truck per manufacturer and you simply specify the the GVWR you want and the truck is configured as necessary to meet that requirement. There would be no 3/4 or 1 ton trucks, just HD trucks. That might actually simplify things.

That is interesting. I know chevy/gmc also recently began producing medium duty rated trucks again as well. I am most intrigued by the new 9 speed Allison transmission

Updated- took a look at website. crew cab standard bed 4x4 now with 4185 lbs payload- not too shabby

I am also keeping an eye on the new 2020 generation trucks. Much to appreciate so far and more to come. I may be ordering a new one after several months in production after the initial issues are addressed.

Really like our current truck as it in pristine condition, fully optioned, and only one item (fuel tank sensor) post warranty out of my pocket.

In 2-3 years there is a high probability I will buy a new dually from GMC. Just got the 2019 2 weeks ago so no rush but I do like a lot of the new tech they added (and the GMC is not nearly as unsightly as the Chevys ) Not in a rush to help them debug all that new stuff though with the 2020s

That's an interesting concept. I like it.
    It makes sense.

The 3/4 ton distinction was always kind of stupid to me anyways, really just for regulatory and tax reasons it seems since otherwise they are the exact same as the one ton just with different springs and wheels
