34 day trip towing a huge TT with a 49 Buick Roadmaster

Thought that would get your attention. I've been reading this great account of a 1952 journey made cross country towing a custom made 45 footer (I think that's correct) with a 49 Buick Roadmaster. It is mixed into an 11 year old thread about historic trailer journeys over on the Airstream forum. On post #16 (back in 2009) this guy Terry shows up and begins to tell his story that happened when he was barely 7, their family journey with like 8 kids. The entire trip was documented by Life Magazine, and I have ordered an original copy off ebay. The thread is still going strong. 22 pages long so grab a beverage. enjoy!!!

Actually I just found another forum with many more, and better quality photos of the journey. And I stand corrected, there were 9 kids. The little guy in the striped shirt is the author

Talk about a “Long, Long, Trailer”! Lucy and Desi had nothing on these folks! Thanks for this!

I was wondering that myself and I will ask Terry, although he was so young he might not know. I do know they used a dolly, and in one post Terry tells how when they were descending steep grades his mother would yodel out the window to warn others they were coming.

I believe the trailer would have had brakes. Our family hauled a shorter mobile home from NY to TX in 1955 with a '54 Ford yet! We had zero problems as I recall, other than nearly getting stuck in Mississippi mud. I was 15 at the time.
