With being gone all day long almost every day making it the whole time was fairly easy as far as the black tank is concerned. Conservation on the running water was the challenge. Quick Navy showers was a must , paper plates/plastic silver and as much grilling and cooking as you can outside so no to little dishwashing . The plus of a place to swim is nice too.
We always pick that type of camping or a state park over a crowded private CG. Another bonus is if you have a senior pass it's only 8 bucks a night!
    Any advice on which sites/loop?

Thanks & love the info you get in this forum!

We stayed at Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone. Very convenient and a nice park. From there we went into the park every day (morning is best - early) to sight see the west/north and central areas of the park. Then we moved into the park to Grant Campground (no hookups, and you can't be longer than 30 feet). From there we visited south and east of park. Then we went to Coulter Bay in Tetons. We had full hookups there.

It has electrical only, but that was all we needed. We did run into crowds at the park, mostly around old faithful, but the loop roads were no problem at all, and we had a really good time and saw as much as we could in the short time we had. Grizzly RV park allows folks to dump there for $10, so we did that when done at Rainbow Point. From there we went south and stayed at Colter Bay campground. We used our solar and Battleborns with much pleasure as only a few loops there have hookups. Colter might be a good base camp for both parks as it is right between.

As for what to see. Oof that is a big list. It depends on what your desires are. Steaming pools of different colors, geysers, hiking paths with amazing overlooks, waterfalls, cascades, lakes, mountains, etc. I (and many others here) can give more detail if you have particular interests. Either way, you cannot go wrong.

I think we have settled on Rainbow Point.....no sites available at Grizzly Park.....fine by us. As far as what we like to see, everything you mentioned above. Last question: you think we can cover a lot of the sites in 5 days? Thanks!

We always stay at Colter Bay and we usually go in early spring or fall but not this year. We will be there 7/20 for 10 days with all the kids and their rigs. Its a great spot to hit both parks like stated earlier. We stayed at Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone like Paul and it was nice, but we didn't go into the park from there. There's some great boondocking outside of Jackson WY if you make it down that far, or Gros Ventre Campground with no hook ups.

Missed the Lamarr valley drive, good for wild life.
We stayed in Cody Wy at Ponderosa RV not bad a little tight, $50 a night with good Sam’s. About 50 miles to east entrance.
If it’s in your path Custer SP in SD is great drive for wild life plus Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, a couple hours to Devil’s Tower.
Custer SP is on our list. Thanks!

We only had 2 full days to see Yellowstone (yeah, yeah, but it is what we had), so we did the north loop one day and the south loop the other day. In 5 days, I would say you can see most of what you would want, you just cannot immerse yourself for very long, and that is probably what we missed out on. We didn't see everything, certainly, but we hit a lot of the things we wanted... except the boiling river swim area. It was closed

Don't let that stop you. Most of the sites are first come first served. It didn't even fill up a couple of the nights we stayed there.
