Florida- Thousand Trails reviews
We received a free years membership to TT. Being from central Florida, please share with us any of their campgrounds worth us spending time in? Thanks Tomm

We have TT members off and on, mostly NW and SW regions. DW finally understood all of their quirky rules, stay 2 weeks, be gone 3 days, stay x days etc. I never got it. When we first started using them the parks were in pretty good shape, after a couple of years we noticed that maintenance was not being performed as well. Part of that is individual park management, but it looked like a overall trend for us.
I have seen forum posts from people that have worked the memberships to great advantage, it required a bunch of moving from park to park, but they got it done.
For us, we bought the membership because we planned on staying an extended amount of time in one area, for us that means about 2 weeks. Because of the popularity of RVing be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible. Having a membership does not guarantee they will have a vacancy.

Check and see if yours includes the trails collection, that way you can stay at the Encore parks also. Otherwise I think there are only three Thousand Trail Parks in FL that are included. (Trails collection was $214 more for us but it paid off on our last trip by staying two weeks free in Bar Harbor ME)
Three Flags in Wildwood is not bad, we have overnighted there a few times on our way back home to Sarasota.
Peace River is very hit or miss, lots of ATV's and Mud Trucks, from what we saw. We checked it out in our car one day and decided we would never stay there ourselves. We are going to visit a few of the Encore sites this fall before the snowbirds get back, have heard good things about the ones near Orlando and Crystal River.Former 2022 Solitude 310GKR w/8K axles & disc brakes, factory solar

We haven't stayed at any of the Thousand Trails or Encore parks in Florida - YET. What I started to do was to research them on Google Maps satellite view. When viewing from above many look like parking lots - little or no trees - and the trailers are packed together like sardines. That kind of camping doesn't appeal to us. Also, some parks in the collection (Arizona and Texas) are "age qualified" - which just means you must be 55 or older to book the site. The Trails Collection (the Encore parks) is an add-on that costs $214 according to their website viewed on July 19 2019. Florida is in the Southeast Zone. You can add another zone to your camping pass for an additional $54. So in a nutshell - TT has 3 locations in Florida and a total of 23 in the Southeast Zone. Those are the campgrounds included in your TT purchase for the Southeast Zone. Then for an additional $214 you can access the Encore parks, of which there are 37, in Florida, and more in the whole Southeast Zone. See their website for maps.
We really like the state and county parks in Florida - and residents who are age 65 or older get 50% off the camping fee at the state parks.
There are many excellent Thousand Trails YouTube videos that explain the system. Search for the Grand Design ambassadors: The Getaway Couple as they have posted several videos on this topic.

Try the Orlando park and the Wildwood park. Your membership was free so you aren't out anything. Then go to Peace River in Wachula. Peace river is like many of the TT parks. Forget all the ATV stuff. It's a sampling of the parks that will tell you if you are okay camping in TT parks. Everyone's camping style is different. There is no right or wrong there's just what works for you. We like Orlando best. Our friends like 3 Flags best and their friends like peace river. We all prefer state parks the most. Especially in the keys!
