West Glacier, Montana - Bridge Clearance at Glacier Village

    Hi All,

I am finishing up plans for our maiden voyage with our new 399TH and our last stop is West Glacier and we were hoping to stay at West Glacier RV Park & Cabins. I am using RV Trip Wizard to plan the route and everything looked good until I manually checked the route via Google Maps. I discovered the entrance to West Glacier Village has a bridge with a clearance of 13'6", which is the extact height of my 399TH.

I found a dirt road at Belton Stage & Grizzly Spur road that will let me get around the bridge (see images). The dirt road looks like a back way to a collection of residential homes and appears to be well traveled. It connects to River Bend Road, which is where the RV park is located (red dot).

Has anyone taken this back route? Any help or tips appreciated.

Yea, I tried that but they were not very helpful. I was either dialing a call center or connected with a local who had no idea what I was talking about.
I've decided to stay at the Glacier KOA. Luckily, there was a cancellation yesterday for a Super Patio Site, so I am pretty happy and looking forward to the trip!

Good choice ,we were there last June. It’s a beautiful campground. Went under that bridge several times, but just with the truck. Have a great time.

Assuming the state follows the rules for signs like this, it means vehicles up to and including 13'6" are ok. Taller vehicles not allowed. Of course, if the road has been repaved and the sign didn't get changed, then good luck. If this is a truck route, then it is probably ok. Would be nerve racking to try it, I expect.

I checked the truck atlas and there are no truck routes within Glacier National Park, at least according to the latest atlas. I will give it a closer look once I get into West Glacier. I found a great spot at the West Glacier KOA and am all set for this leg of the trip!

We spent all day today on the “going to the sun highway”, awesome views, but way too many people, if you don’t leave before 630AM, very tough to find parking at popular spots such as Avalanche Lake.
Logan Pass is a zoo, circle the parking lot hoping someone will leave while you happen to be right next his spot.
No food until Rising Sun Lodge at Lake Saint Mary.
    Good luck!

While you are there in the area, if you have the time take a day trip on Beartooth Pass. What an awesome road!

This is a fantatic tip - mahalo nui loa! I have not been to Montana since I was a kid (30+ years ago, gulp!) and this is a great way to reintroduce myself to the state. The photos and reviews on TripAdvisor are some of the best I've ever seen. Super excited to see the great views!

Mahalo for the great tips! I've heard you have to get up early if you want to get a spot and avoid "some" of the crazy traffic. I will be sure to pack some snacks and water for the trip!
