    Leaking Bathroom Skylight

    Greetings,

I hope someone can give me some suggestions on a repair. I have a 2018 Imagine 2500RL. We have it parked in the driveway since we are loading it to go camping for a week. It is raining here and I noticed the bathroom skylight has a drip from the lower forward corner It is falling right into the shower pan, so not causing a bigger mess. I climbed up on top and could see no obvious breach in the caulking. Should I remove the old caulk and start fresh around the skylight or just clean it up and put the new caulk over the old caulk. I also hope someone can suggest which caulking material to use.

Should I dismantle the skylight from the inside to let it dry out after that? One other thing, I purchased the trailer used and the three year warranty did not transfer.

Thanks for any and all help.

    Chris

I would pull the inner portion out and find out where it is leaking from.

You can clean off the old sealant and use Dicor self leveling to replace it, or look closer to see if anything is suspect. Dicor will stick to itself, so you don't necessarily have to remove the old.

As huntr70 says pull the interior trim from the skylight and also the vent and see where the water is coming from. Just because it's dripping from the skylight doesn't necessarily mean that's where the leak is as water can migrate across the inside of the ceiling. I had a leaky skylight and it dripped from the vent. Examine the skylight VERY carefully as mine had a crack that took 3 trips to the roof to finally identify. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. It is dry here at Table Rock State Park so I plan to tackle this issue when we get home.

Thanks for the advice. I ran water on the roof until I isolated the leak to the skylight I pulled the old skylight and found where a screw had been over tightened and cracked the corner. I replaced it with a new skylight and I am waiting 24 hours for the caulk to cure before I water test it. But feel pretty confident the problem is resolved.
I appreciate your help and I really love having the forum to go to.

Water tested the skylight this morning and it is dry inside.
You’re right it does feel good to tackle a problem and fix it.
Because one thing I’m finding as a new RVer is I will be learning new skills or spending a lot of money!
