27RL Mods - added island and modified table and steps

After three seasons we decided to add an island, modify from one step to two steps with shoe storage and modify the table feet.

ADDED ISLAND

I added the island for additional work surface. It is also nice to have when putting things into and out of the refrigerator.

The base cabinet is 30” long x 14.5” wide x 34.5” high. The top is 31.5” x 16” x 1”.

The front has cabinet doors and the back is open. Storing heavy items like bottled water on the bottom with two shelves for lighter things like onions, garlic and potatoes.

This is out first outing with it and we really like it.

I have seen and used the posts related to the step changes and modifying the table feet so I will no go into a lot of detail here.

STEPS
I went to our local dealer and traced and pictured the current GDRV design. I reversed the swing direction of the door and built temporary steps to be sure I liked it. After last season I built the final version that is shown. The curved nose piece on the lower tread was made by laminating thing strips of oak into a form that I made. Love the two steps and shoe storage.

TABLE

Removed and disassembled the table base. I made the feet shorter so our feet do not get tangled in them. I added an oak bracket and attached it to the wall to ensure the necessary stability.
