No Access to Compartment Behind TV - Poor Design!

I too find it hard to believe that an owner would have to fish wires each time they want to connect a device to the TV. As far as getting a door, we called Grand Design and confirmed that we could order a door but we needed to go through our dealer to do it. The dealer asked us to take a photo of the door we wanted which we did and ordered one with hinges and a door handle.

The Sabre that I traded in for the 337 had open storage behind the TV. I was able to install a playstation and roku player behind the TV . With my 337, the roku and USB drive is in the left drawer and the playstation is the right drawer under the TV.. I use a signal extension from Amazon for my roku.

My wife and I love our 230 RL but one design feature drives us nuts. Behind the TV mount is empty space but there is no way to access it without cutting a hole into the compartment in order to run the wires from our satellite receiver to the TV. Right now they run out the front to the compartment below.

Our solution is to cut a hole into the compartment and purchase a door to match the one over the microwave so it looks nice. We spoke to Grand Design and they said they understood the problem but have never had feedback that it should be changed. We were the first to say anything. To me that is hard to believe because it seems so obvious.

Has anyone else noticed this design problem? What solutions have you come up with?

I have removed outlets and cable connections to reach in there.

Well, we finally got around the finishing the modification behind the TV to install a door to allow for access behind the TV. So I thought I'd upload a few photos to show what we did. It's nice to have the extra space.

I was quite pleased with the result and glad we purchased a door from GD to match everything else. If you end up doing something please take time to update this thread.

Do you mind if I ask what the door cost? Did they ship to you or did you have to order thru an RV dealer? It's been a while since I read this thread, sorry if the info is in the above posts.

Nice work, Bruce! Looks like something the factory did. We have the same space behind the TV in our 315.
