To spray or not to spray, 7 pin connector

I have received conflicting information on the maintenance of the 7 pin connector. Can I use something like WD-40 to ensure good clean contact? Or is that a bad idea?

    I don't think it's bad.
I've got some DeoxIT 5% Spray Contact Cleaner, 5 oz.
And I like to use some Permatex 22058 Dielectric Tune-Up Grease on the contacts.

I am in the spray side of the fence. Electrical connections will get some corrosion on them and I try to prevent this. I think it would be possible to over do it and create a connectivity issue, but I lightly spray mine from time to time with either super lube or WD40 or other "dry" lubes. Not a lot, just a little bit.

    +1 Much better than WD40

Another product I have been using for years is Corrosion-X. A little goes a LONG way. https://www.amazon.com/CorrosionX-Av...p/B000FOLXFW/r

Yes for the corrosion-X. It is also very good for fishing reels, tackle, and gun cleaning/lube.

I try not to use WD 40. In my experience, it gathers dirt. WD means water dispersal and I have hear it is made of fish oil.

I agree not the best to use, but also, it is not made from fish oil according to what I have researched anyway.

If you need to clean it, use a electronics cleaner like CRC QD then add some dielectric grease. Most autoparts stores will have both of them.

Use CRC electronics cleaner/other electrical cleaner only and then let plug hand down so that all excess cleaner drains out. Tried electrical grease once and it caused problems, therefore would not recommend using any type of grease.

I stand corrected -- WD 40 is not made from fish oil. That is a rumor. It does gather dirt. I can confirm that.
