Boondocking spots near La Grande Oregon?

I have looked at Campendium and several other websites already, but I知 asking for experiences by people that have actually dry camped in this area or up to an hour West of it.
We値l be coming down from Kennewick end of September and want to take a factory tour at the Northwest Mfg plant and check out some Arctic Foxes.

I haven't boondocked near there, but can recommend a few cheap options. Wildhorse Casino (pendleton) has free camping in their parking lot. Birdtrack Springs CG was $5/night when I stayed there about 5 years ago. Pilcher Creek Reservoir and Wolf Creek Reservoir also have cheap to free sites. If you want full HU I recommend Grande Hot Springs RV resort--hot springs fed hot tub, and be sure to tour the old hot lake springs hotel next door.

We just stayed at Catherine Creek State Park last week. Hwy 203 from I-84 at La Grande, 8 miles past Union, OR. Dry camping, $10.00/night, campsite 5 is a pull-through. Hosts will let you use their hoses to fill your fresh water from the water there at the CG. Very quiet and peaceful, next to Catherine Creek. Might want to check when they close for the season, though.

    Hi Ed.
244 south of La Grande heading towards Sumpter has many boondock sites off the road. 244 is a remote road going to Granite, which is a ghost town. North of Granite is FS land.
Look for Crane Creek Trailhead on Google map

Also heads up for Hunting season. Many boondockin' sites will be taken during hunting season.
