Lockout Hubs on a 2008 Dodge 3500 Diesel

I am curious if anyone out there utilizes free wheeling/lockout hubs on their rigs, while towing the fifth wheels. It seems to me that if you were heading down a substantial
incline, that you could utilize the transfer case, drop it into low range, and control your speed much easier. With the front hubs in free wheel mode, there should not an issue as the axels would not be locked together. Am I missing something, or does this make sense ?

From reading the Cummins Forum, the free wheel hub kits are very expensive, and not all are very good.

It would be nice to have the disconnect though. Even just to free up the front end and gain an mpg or two...

Ford has had the lock outs for forever and it is nice having them free spin. A lot less wear on the drive train and better mileage.
