Samsung Residential Refrigerator - Water Leak Into Crisper Bin.

I searched but didn't find any posts on this......

Apparently the Samsung residential refrigerators many of us have can leak water into the crisper bins (or the bottom of the top food section under the crisper drawers). This is caused by water freezing behind the cooling panel on the inside, back of the fridge. That water is suppose to drain to the bottom of the frig but the drain hole freezes.

I had this happen today. DW found water in the left side bin, cleaned it up and found it again later in the day. A quick search on YouTube produced many hits on what goes wrong and how to fix. I fixed it (took about an hour) and am hoping (probably a waste of hope) that it won't occur again. So I'll hope it doesn't happen until we get home in a few months and I can install a better way of controlling the water from freezing. Actually you can even search on Amazon to find a part to install to help prevent freezing. My emergency fix was to wrap some copper wire around the heating element and let it hang into the drain hole.

Here is a sample link to help you search. I think if you enter your model number you might get a few different videos.

Yessiree. Very familiar with that design fail. We have the exact problem on our 2014 Samsung in our sticks and bricks. Apparently, Samsung has ignored the design flaw for years. I'll never own one again.

We heard about that poor design 6 mos after we bought one for the house. We ran off to FL not long after so we never hooked up the ice maker. Returned, hooked up the icemaker then learned that leak can happen and the fix. We also learned that turning on the ice maker is ****** backwards, if the ice maker icon is lit it means it is off...???? We lit the icon thinking we were turning the ice maker on then wondered why no ice. A quick search told us about the issues with water and the backwards icon lighting. Other than that so far it's been a good fridge.

The water filter is hiding between the crispers on ours, that is the first place I'd of checked for the cause of standing water.

Gee, something to look forward to with a Samsung RF18 french door fridge.

We had a Samsung french door double ice maker fridge in the stick house. Had a similar issue with that one and Samsung sent techs twice to install 'upgrades'. Problem persisted so they sent a third tech who was honest with me.....said the thing could not be fixed and I would never see the issue solved. Since it was still under extended warranty, Lowe's did a buy back and we got a LG. Had no problems at all with the LG.

I was disappointed to see the Samsung in the Solitude but it is apparently what most of the RV manufacturers use.

A buddy told me to wrap some copper wire around the bottom of the heating element and put one end down the drain hole a little way. He said that fix done a few years ago on a home based frig has so far worked well with no further occurrences. I'll try that the next time it happens (note my optimism! )
