Big Bend National Park in Texas

We will be pulling a 30` 5th wheel to Texas next winter and one of the places we want to see is Big Bend Park, does anyone know which hwy-385-118 or 67 is the best approach into the park area, the only hill experience I have is going thru Georgia .
    Pulling with a chev 3/4 diesel .

Do you know where you will be camping? That might make a difference on which road will work out the best.

I do know you DON’T want to go down on 67 because from Presidio to Terlingua it has some VERY steep and very tight turns as it crosses Big Bend State park.

118 is not at all bad, it goes over a pass or 2 but nothing to get excited over.

I have never been down 385.

We stayed at Maverick Ranch campground which is part of Lajitas Golf and resort complex. Nice campground, usable WIFI, full hookups, pool, and access to the resort if you want. It is a pretty good drive to get into the heart of Big Bend National park but that is true of any campground unless you stay in the park itself.

We were in Big Bend in February this year. We arrived via hwy 385 from Marathon and left via Study Butte hwy 118. No issues using either hwy. I would suggest you also visit Ft. Davis. There is a State Park nearby that is great. If you stay in Big Bend NP plan on using the Rio Grand campground. Plenty of room for our 303 RLS.

We spent 4 days in the area, only 1 full day and part of another in the park and that was enough time for us, (I have a arthritic hip and foot so I don’t hike too much). A week should be plenty of time. The park is big but it has large areas that are desert so there is not a lot to do in those sections, mostly drive through to get to other attractions.
