Ever wonder how long your batteries will power the fridge in propane mode?

Well I don't know either, but I will tell you 14 days is too many.....

[Wife]: "Do you think the refrigerator & freezer will last on propane for that long, it's going to be 100 degrees every day?"

[Me]: "Yeah, it should be fine, I just put two full propane tanks in..."

[Wife]: "Thats a lot of frozen meat if you are wrong..."

    [Me]: "It'll be fine"

Fast Forward........ IT IS NOT FINE! It. Is. Not. Fine.

Plenty of propane, but the batteries are deader than the liquid, rotting meat spilling out of my freezer.

Moral of the story, as of about 11:32am MST today, I am now a pretty-devoted-vegetarian.

Yes the batteries are the weak link in this whole situation. Lots of things in the trailer drain them pretty quick. Hope that liquid meat didn't permanently smell up the fridge real bad.

    Jim,
Being a meat lover I'm very sorry to hear that A 12V battery monitor can be had for just a few dollars. I installed this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Linkstyle-Cha...ZG1PPDWCYY6J34
I check it once in the morning and once in the evening since I always boondock camp. I switch it off when I'm not actually looking at it. I have 2 group 27 batteries that I hook a 100W portable solar panel to (next set will be group 31).

    Regards,
    Kevin

    Kevin,

I realize now that I neglected to mention that we LEFT the trailer for 2 weeks...... so when we came back is when I had to come to terms with my mistake. Lol, all good, and I got to have a good father-daughter conversation about dirty-jobs and paying for your own mistakes! I’ve never seen her run so fast as when I opened the freezer.

Thankfully, baking soda, bleach, and Lysol exist. We slept in TT last night, no remaining smell (I’m very sensitive nosed) so we are good to go, the journey continues!

Propane would have been my first worry, would never have thought about 12v. Thanks for the heads up. Another reason to get auto start for my Onan.

We don’t know exactly since we were gone, but when the batteries were new we’ve used them very sparingly (with the refrigerator on, occasional lights etc) for 8 days, and they were very low. My guess is, with the 100+ heat, and the batteries being a little older..... I’m guessing we got around 10 days before they stopped providing power. Hard to say for sure.
