    Hot Water Heater Electrical Feed

I turned off the 15 amp breaker for the hot water heater today and toggled the electric switch for the hot water heater on the main control panel expecting the red monitor light to not light up. It did. Is this normal?

I'm not sure if that is normal but I have found several circuit breakers incorrectly marked. Try the other 15 amp breakers ans see if one of them turns off the light.

Thx Jerryr - I noted that in reading some threads and tried the breaker above marked "fireplace". The one below it is a 20 amp marked "AC" and I did not try that one. Is the AC a 20 amp breaker? I would think that might be the case. So - if no one can clarify, I will go back and turn off all the 15 amp breakers (one at a time) and see if the red light on the control panel still illuminates. Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

The switch has 12 volts DC running thru it not 120 Volt AC. The breaker is killing the board in the water heater. Take a volt meter and check at the water heater and you will see.

In short--yes, it's normal and working correctly. The switch doesn't know if 120vAC is getting passed to the water heater, all it knows is it's in the "on" position and thus turns on its light. (As accurately already documented, the light is powered by 12vDC.)
