Best & Worst Days To Travel

This past Monday 8/12 we were driving home from Lake George NY to York PA. The traffic (especially the tractor trailer traffic) was terrible, I would say there was at least 10 tractor trailers to one car. The worse part was through NY 87, NJ 287, to PA 78

So my question to you that travel regularly, what do you find to be the best and worst days for travel?

We always plan our trips so that we're not returning home on a Sunday. The traffic on I10, I40, I15, I215 between Las Vegas and LA is brutal.

Beyond that, we travel pretty much any day of the week.

Also, we plan on hitting highways that go through a major city in the late morning/noonish, no traveling during commute time.

100%. If you're going around / through major cities, hitting them at odd hours can help to dodge rush-hour (hella early, 10am, etc.).

We have been in NY for a few months and no matter when we hit 87 it is a mess! Same with 78 in PA......i would try early mornings before rush hour and watch Friday evenings, or weekends. Traffic in the NE is getting so out of control!!!!! Warehouses everywhere it seems.....And i thought PA roads were bad....wow, NY has some pretty nasty ones also.....

The best day is the day you leave. The worst day is the day you have to come home.

I always feel sorry for RV'ers coming through Orlando during rush hour. I try to stay off the roads in the morning until about 9:00 or so and after 3:00. I avoid I-4 like the plague.

Sunday early is probably best. Unless it's summer and you are going through / by vacation areas (like the Poconos or Jersey shore) Sunday for the most part is easy travel. I agree avoid Monday's or Friday, get there a day early or leave a day late. Midweek isn't too awful if you avoid metro areas.
Why didn't you take RT84 to RT81 through NJ and PA? Rt 88 is a nice road but the section of Rt81 from NY into PA to about New Milford is horrible.
