Hitch options for flat bed
Hello,
I am new to this forum. We are in the market for a Momentum toy hauler, preferably the 328 if I can still find one. We like this length and weight. I’m looking at either an F350 or 450 DRW as the tow vehicle, but I would like to put a custom aluminum flat bed on it for hauling snowmobiles when it is not hauling a fifth wheel around. This raises the mount for a goose neck ball 7 inches over the stock placement. I’m wondering if there are any hitch options that can handle that. I’ve talked to the manufacturer of the flat bed, and he could make me a custom bed that would only have a 4 inch rise. This still may be too much to deal with.
I thought maybe a Reese Goose Box might be able to deal with this, but haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone to tell me yes or no.
I am thinking it is a bad idea to try to haul with a flat bed, but otherwise the truck is not as usable to me when I am at home. Perhaps I need to look at a different style flat bed, but have not seen any other options.
Sorry for the long winded post. I’m new to fifth wheels, not to RV’s. Always had smaller Rvs. But now I’m retired, and we would like to do some extended road trips and bring the toys along.
Thanks

Hello,
Welcome to the forum. There are a couple of people here that tow with F450 flat beds so I know it is possible. Hopefully they will chime in. Sorry I don't remember the hitch configurations they had.

I have seen several flat bed configurations. Most used a fifth wheel hitch, custom made.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at Andersen hitch, or possibly the Reese Goose Box as options. I think there was even a fifth wheel hitch designed for a flat bed, but the one I saw wouldn’t work with an aluminum bed.
And the whole being 4-7 inches higher than OEM really throws the whole thing off. Just not sure if there is any adjustability to deal with that.

Looking at the Freight liner Sport chassis trucks what I have seen is they will have a hole in the flat bed with the hitch lowered down inside of that somewhat putting the hitch point lower. Would that be some thing that could be done with the F450. In fact after googling F450 flat bed towing 5th wheel they had a picture of one like that with the diamond floor that had a door that could be closed when not towing.
