    Equal-i-zer WD Size?

    Hey guys

Looking to get a new 2800BH soon as well as the Equal-i-zer Hitch system

I am wondering what your thoughts on getting the 1000 lb or the 1200 lb

    Trailer GVW 7995 lbs
UVW - 6283 lbs (rough off website specs)
Hitch Weight - 604 lbs (rough off website specs)

Trailer will have 2 - 6 V Batteries and the 2 20 lbs propane tanks

So the 15% TW is about 1200 lbs and this would be the absolute max TW based on the GVW of 7995 lbs

I am typical with the amount of stuff I load into the trailer. The total with the empty hitch weight of 604 lbs plus batteries (100 lbs) plus the 40 lbs propane comes out to 744 lbs.

Then I load in about 1000 lbs of stuff into the trailer but the floor plan looks like much of the weight would be over the axle but we travel with 25% of the fresh water tank filled (I assume that is in front of the axle) so about 100 lbs in water. Probably about 100 lbs of cloths up front in the bedroom too

So that is getting close to 950 lbs just with the stuff I listed. I do load some stuff in the bed of my truck behind the rear axles but maybe only about 50-75 lbs of stuff. The hitch itself is not included in these estimate weights either

Should I play it safe and just go with the 1200 lbs bars?

Go with the 1200#. I've got a 2670, and if I took the GVWR of the trailer (84xx) and figured a max of 15% TW, I'd be at 1275#. I debated the 1200# and never mind possibly being 75 over.... Decided safety and peace of mind was worth it. So I went to the 1400#.

The salesman at the RV dealer tried to set us up with the 1,000/10,000 Equal-i-zer, but we told him we needed the 1,200/12,000 version instead based on the same logic that @Gimpyknee described. Our 2018 Imagine 2800BH has a GVWR of 7,495-lbs. so 15% would be 1,124-lbs. which would exceed the capacity of the 1,000/10,000 hitch. It turns out that our actual hitch weight is close to 1,000-lbs. I think that RV salesmen must sell hitches based on empty tongue weight, and many of them probably don't know how to estimate what the real hitch weight might be.

Go with the heavier bars when you are faced with 2 possibilities. You can always adjust heavy bars for a lighter load, but lighter bars will never work right it the load is too heavy for them. Also, most all of the time we end up with more trailer weight than we think we will have.

Is it possible to switch out the bars to a heavier pair? (1000 to 1200) without changing out the whole hitch?

I believe the hitch head is a standard/same part - question best answered by Equalizer.

According to a Q&A on Etrailer you may also have to upgrade the head to part # EQ90-02-1200
