    Shaking up and down

We have a new imagine 2600rb. When traveling on major highways we get a lot of the tow vehicle and trailer bumping up and down. It feels like we are driving on a washboard. I was wondering what caused this. Do I need to distribute weight differently? We tow with a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi V8. I am hoping to get some suggestions.

It would help if you gave a little more information such as year of your Jeep and 2wd or 4wd. All of these determine the tow capacity of your tow vehicle and available payload. If you are using a weight distribution hitch, what type and at what setting?

Yes more information will be helpful. A shorter wheelbase/lighter capacity tow vehicle will tend to get knocked around quite a bit by 30’ travel trailer. We are not full time but travel quite a bit and the roads are terrible in some places.

Run your vehicle across a CAT scale at a nearby truck stop to get your weights. Go into the office/cashier and let them know you want to get loaded and unloaded weights - it will cost around $12. Then, run across the scale with the trailer hooked up as though you were heading out for a camping trip.

Next, find a suitable place in the parking lot to drop the trailer and run just your Jeep onto the scale to get the figures for the front and rear axle weight.

Go back into the office and they will give you two scale tickets. The first scale ticket will show you the weight of the front axle, the drive (or rear) axle, the trailer axles(s) and the total weight of your rig. The second ticket will show just your Jeep's unloaded weight.

The goal of the weight distribution hitch is to put nearly the same weight on the front axle when loaded as when unloaded, or another way to put it, to take weight off the rear axle and distribute it to the front axle of the Jeep and the axles of the trailer. If there isn't enough weight on the front axle and/or the tongue weight is too light you may not have sufficiently strong bars to prevent porpoising as you're experiencing now.

Go across the scales, post up your scale tickets and the folks here will give you guidance.
