As others have said, if it's a popular place book in advance. We literally booked 365 days in advance of our winter location in Port St. Joe, FL. I set a reminder in my calendar and on 1 November 2018 I called and blocked out six months in our specific lot number.
The lifestyle is - in a word: SIMPLE. Diana and I have taken a more "casual" approach to full-timing. We have a spot up in N. GA, in the mountains on a lake. We had decided that our start to full timing was not going to be too complicated. We do six months up here, then we picked a spot back in FL to do six months there. After the completion of the six months in FL we'll head back up to GA and then decide what we'll do for the winter of 2021. For the winter of 2020 (Nov - Apr) we'll come back to Port St. Joe, but with an eye on trying another spot in FL. Because the winters book so far out in FL, we'll literally need the winter of 2020 to decide and make reservations for 2021.
After that, we'll wash, rinse and repeat (GA in the summer, somewhere in FL in the winter).
My only advice/suggestion: don't try to do too much all at once. You can't see it all at once, so pick a spot or two and E.N.J.O.Y.!
And to Dallas: "May you be in heaven 10 minutes before the devil knows you're dead!"Last edited by jim1521; 09-26-2019 at 12:00 PM.

We are in line for retirement. We've got the truck and the right 5'er for us. My wife is on board and already doing garage sales. She says we are waiting till we are 66, which is in 2 years. She wants that extra bit of money from Social Security. I could leave tomorrow, but will just continue to practice when we can.

Winter time, the three popular states are Florida, southern Texas and Southern Ariz. (Phoenix, Yuma or Tucson areas). We've been to all three in the winter months with only a few weeks advance reservations. I'm retired so I don't want to be locked in to reservaations to far in advance.
You may not be able to find anything in the "hot spot" areas on short notice and Florida seemed to be the most limited......a smaller state with many, many Canadians that come down each winter. Ariz. is easy and if you get close to Tucson or Phoenix then there's still plenty to do all winter. I spent last winter in my jeans and t-shirts at the Pima County Fairgrounds RV Park in Tucson. No reservations and $150 a week ($600 a month) includes electricity. The only place I found that you can stay 30 days or more and don't have to pay seperate for electricity and very affordable compared to most.SOLD my 2017 Momentum 376TH being pulled by a 2014 Ford F-350 Lariat, FX-4, Crew Cab, Longbed, Dually. Not pulling the 5er, catch me on my 2013 CVO Harley Ultra Classic.
Map = states that we've stayed at least one night in our RV.

Quartzsite, Arizona is the RV mecca in January. The largest gathering of RVs in the world (and a Grand Design rally)..... "This tiny desert hamlet of fewer than 4000 people draws RVs from all over the country, even the world, with an exciting array of activities and events specifically designed for those who traveling in a tiny home on wheels. What RVers really seem to appreciate about Quartzsite is the space."
