Let me expand on my previous reply.
I have had no problems leaving the gray tank open. The P-trap is simply there to block the odor. I will also fill and flush my gray tank monthly as part of my PM schedule just to ensure that I don’t have any problems. I have not had any critter problems. I had heard about “sewer flies” but if they’re there they haven’t made it past the P-traps.
The black tank is another story. That tank is always closed, and gets dumped every 3-4 days - whether it needs it or not. Once a month it gets the super-clean treatment; dumped and rinsed, then 1 cup of Dawn and 7 gallons of very hot water. I let that sit for 30 minutes, then meter-fill the tank with an additional 30 gallons of hose water, and let that sit for 30 more minutes. Finally, dump, rinse, then fill with 5-gallons of hose water followed by two Walex “hockey puck” deodorant packs.Last edited by jim1521; 08-28-2019 at 07:39 PM.
