    Western BC, Canada is beautiful. It's nicer then then Oregon and that's hard for me to say; as I am an Oregonian.

    If you have been in jail for anything in the USA, there is a chance you will not go across the border.

    Please note that although cannabis is legal in Canada, under NO circumstances can you bring it across the border, even if you have medical prescription. You can purchase it legally once you cross.

    In addition to lots of other great info already here;

    Make sure that your credit card companies and bank know you're leaving the country, and make sure that your cell / data plans will work in Canada (and check the roaming rates for minutes and data).

    We went up to BC for a day trip last summer, and stopped just over the border for some refreshments. My bank immediately locked my debit card, and texted me a fraud alert.

    Of course my Verizon phone plan has no coverage in Canada (but I knew that ahead of time), so I didn't get the message until later that night, and couldn't use the debit card the rest of the day (luckily my credit cards weren't an issue).

    If you're from California that's a deal for fuel. I paid nearly $5 for diesel before I left California, for good, about 6 months ago

    Think everything has been covered. On the cell phone we have Verizon and were able to change plans and use phone just like in US with no additional fees. And we found lots of folks in Quebec province unable ( or unwilling?) to speak English. But it wasn’t a big deal.

    All good advice. Try to avoid Toronto and Montreal at rush hours. You won’t enjoy it. I would avoid travel from about 7:00-9:30 and 4:00-6:30.

    If you are not going into Montreal but through to Quebec City take the Montreal bypass Highway 30. You will bypass highway 20 which takes you through the hectic Montreal. Remember highway 30. You will be thankful you did.

    My relatives in Canada get upset when Americans pronounce QUE BEC. They pronounce it like Ka BEC. Also, Canada uses the metric system so mileage, gas purchases, etc use those volume measurements. Credit cards will do the exchange rate automatically for you
