I plan on making an extension tool, that will fit on the knob, to open and close the lid until I can replace the whole thing with a remote controlled MaxxFan.

Somebody has already thought this through. Both our 337 and our last coach were too tall to reach the knob. There is a product called "Vent Stick" that we use. You replace the knob on the vent with the new knob, then use the stick to open and close the vent. You can control the vent motor with the switch under the cabinet.

On the subject of installing Fantastic Fans I have a question. Does anyone know the weight limit for folks being on the Reflection roof? My husband is more than able to perform the task, but he's a large dude. Not sure he feels comfortable getting up there. The info is probably printed somewhere in the paperwork we have in our 337, but it's still sequestered in winter storage for a few more weeks.

I believe that there's a labelled weight limit on the access ladder of 300 lbs. It not unusual to have two or more on the roof when installing the A/C for example. I don't see that you have anything to worry about...I'm on our roof every time before I bring the slides in.

I climb up on my 303 and have not fallen thru yet. I weigh 230 but I don't
climb up on that ladder on the back. That thing looks like it could fall off at any time

Thanks for the responses... we may just order the gadget Jim mentions above and decide later on the fan. But it's good to know that hubby can do the work if we get one.

The most difficult part of replacing the OEM kitchen fan in a 303 with a remote controlled Maxx Fan w/Rain sensor is: getting the lap sealant off the roof !

I figured out why the fan needs to be on this week. I was toasting my favorite Walmart french bread slices for breakfast, and the skillet was smoking slightly. The smoke detector at the top of the stairs started honking. The vent fan didn't take away the smoke by itself.
I'll engineer a way for my wife to open the vent from below.
