Connecting laptop to TCL (stock) TV via HDMI (off-grid)

We just returned from a trip prior to which I'd downloaded a bunch of shows (binge watching Criminal Minds) and movies to my laptop - our entire trip was off-grid. Before getting a smart TV at home, I would use an HDMI cable from laptop to TV to stream You Tube videos and such and expected I'd be able to do the same, given the fact that there are 3 HDMI connections on the TCL TV. No can do. I tried all three (although one of them is supposedly an HDMI ARC), changed input as needed and get a "no signal" error. Unplugged, reset, tried again...still nothing. Anyone have any thoughts on what's going wrong? If it's bad HDMI ports then I want to deal with it ASAP since we're still under warranty. Any way to test for that?

    TIA, Eileen

Did you try a different HDMI cable and double-check that the laptop works on another TV? Does the DVD player work?

Make sure your laptop is looking for the external display. Newer laptops may do it automatically, but on others you may have to hit Fn-F7 or another key combination to use the secondary display.

Well, I'm embarrassed. Out of the NINE HDMI cables I own, I took the ONE camping that was bad! Our trailer is parked remotely, I hope to check it out tomorrow with one of the other functioning cables. Thanks!

We couldn't get my wife's laptop to work either so this might be the problem.
Thank you for this..we'll have to check it out.
