Learned a few lessons, almost the hard way...
So the wife and I have enjoyed some type of RV for the last couple of years. Have not done long stays at any one time. Usually spend about 20 nights a year in our RV. Well I learned a couple of lessons this Labor Day weekend. We were enjoying the Colorado River in the Parker, AZ vicinity. Some clouds started to arrive around 3pm on Sunday. Lightning started around 8pm. Storm app said rain should hit us at 9:28pm. Well the winds changed and hit the campground hard at about 9:35pm. The results of the wind and rain: several awnings (not ours thank goodness) were folded back over the tops of trailers. Trees were uprooted, with a couple trailers being struck. Power lines came down and the entire campground was without power from that point until we pulled out at 11:30am on Monday. So the below are our lessons learned
1) Doesn’t matter if the campground has water connections, as soon as water is connected fill fresh water. We had not done this and the camp lost fresh water due to no power.
2) As soon as you make camp ready for the time in the campground, go and fuel the tow vehicle. Again, something I didn’t do because fuel was right across the river (5 miles away). But that fuel doesn’t do you any good if there is no power to pump it. Got lucky and the gas station we wanted to use had a emergency generator.
3) Always be ready to run a generator. We are fortunate to have one on board, but this trip was the eye opener about having backup power. With our last trailer, I probably would not have brought the generator/s as I was connecting to shore power. The daytime heat was over 110 and people didn’t have back up power for their rigs.

OK. That park is about 20 miles north of Big River, I think, on the California side. We use to stay at Big River and had friends at Emerald Cove. Hope no one was hurt.
