Anyone still read the Sunday Paper?

I was in Starbucks this morning and they no
longer sell the morning paper starting today.

Coffee shops used to have racks and racks of them in front or shelves or stacks inside.
End of an era.

I used to love spreading it out and spending hours grazing on it.
LA Times used to sometimes be 3” thick.
My dad was working on an island in the Pacific and the locals didn’t believe that.
He had me mail him a copy to win the bet.

When I was dating I learned girls that read the news paper were always more my type.
Wife still reads our local “flyer” but we can’t get delivery of the larger publications any more. She
kindles her books but prefers a printed copy. Highly educated married to a wrench turner.

Anyone still manage to read the morning paper on newsprint?

No. Live out in the sticks so it’s been a long time since I was able to get one delivered. I liked reading them, but over the last 10 years or so, the quality of the writing has deteriorated badly, and 75% of what is in there I’ve already read, and much of that has become outdated by further events that make it silly to read.

Just a few weeks ago I read a major city daily newspaper for a week while traveling and found the phrases “peaked his curiosity” and “mute point” in front page articles. That is just sad.

They're forever having to print retractions from article they had printed before hand that had something that wasn't right. Sounds like when someone tells them something they go ahead and print it without verifying it first.

We still get our local paper every day. I purchase a Baltimore Sun every Sunday coupons that never show up in the local paper usually reimburse the cost.

I have read the daily paper since I was about 5 or 6. I am now 79. I have to agree that the misuse of words is worse than ever, this forum being no exception.

Poor grammar, spelling or word choice is excusable in a casual forum, but when people with degrees in journalism who have proofreaders and editors allegedly checking the prose it’s different. Lack of attention to their words is a sign that they aren’t doing a good job on any aspect of the news gathering or reporting processes.

Boy, this thread sure turned South quick.
Our youngest has attended USC since he was 14. Honors too.
Most the kids his age, his generation no longer write nor even read cursive.
They pay little or no attention to the news. They never watch TV.

No great loss there, tv pretty much sucks. I get my news online where I can read multiple outlets vs. the main stream media on tv which is very little news. Both sides give their slant/views and encourage arguing from their guests. I go to my parents house where the volume is up to level 40 with the same “news” repeated every 30 minutes and can’t stand it.

350 channels and nothings on.
Wife, a nurse works all nighters and on nights off off maybe watches Animal Planet TiVo's all night long and Dr Pol.
Hummingbirds of the Mojave kinda documentaries.
I like Sports. Especially playoffs.
Movies we watch streaming.
News is depressing.
