I'm sorry, my mistake. I took it to mean you were referring to your truck. That is an impressive payload for a SRW too! It's all good, we RV'ers love to give tow vehicle advice lol!

A trailer with a GVWR of 16,800 lbs is going to put a pin weight of approx 3360 (20% of the trailer weight if fully loaded to GVWR). That leaves a little over 1900 lbs for the rest of your stuff.....passengers, 5ver hitch, toolbox/tools, etc, etc. So payload numbers are good, GVWR on the truck is good, GCVWR is good, RAWR and FAWR...Good, tire load capacity is good if the truck is within the GVWR....that's it....all good to go.

And BTW, I tow a Momentum 394 with a GVWR of 20K lbs and it is within ask of those weight ratings...and it has a 3:73 rear end and does just fine
Not to mention F450's have a lower payloads than equivalent 350's. I cant imagine any dually that wont have way more than enough payload on the sticker.

No matter what brand you will need max payload and lower gearing 4:10 or better. Be looking at the door stickers to check the trucks rating. If I was doing this I would want an F450 or equivalent. You might want to check Trailer Life listings for one of those dedicated semi tractor tow vehicles.

Now - don't want to be a bummer here, but check your states licensing. If the Combined GCVWR for both units is above 26,000 lbs you may need a special license or even a CDL. your trailer is about 16800 GVW so it will be easy to go above the 26000 with an F350 or equal truck.

What did you dealer tell you to get?
I have 5700 lbs of payload on my dually. Even loaded with the rig we have more than enough for a 90 gal RDS tank.

Why would an "equivalent" 450 have a lower payload? I have 4,760lbs on a fully loaded King Ranch.

The payload is always lower on a like equipped 450 vs 350 due to the truck itself being heavier. You have 10 lug wheels, bigger brakes, 19.5 inch tires and wheels etc. I looked at 450 Platinum's when I bought my 350 last year. All the 450's had 4700-4800 payload rating vs 5200-5300 payload for the F350.

Yep, although I suspect that the F450 would not have any issues hauling stuff in the 5500 lb range for payload, so it probably has to do more with the classification for the truck keeping at the 14,000 lb GVWR. That's just a guess on my part though. YMMV

I agree with you, Its a classification issue with the 450. I would rather have the beefier brakes, rear-end, wheels, and tires as well as the tighter turning radius, and give up a few hundred pounds on a sticker.

As answered above its only due to the 14,000 lbs classification 14,001 and its now a class 4 truck. Its obviously ridiculous. But if one is hung up on the sticker then them is the facts.

Agreed 100% (also why I pay little attention to the stickers).
