NY Fall Camping destinations
I'd like to take one last long weekend trip on Columbus Day weekend this year. Any ideas for a good NY destination for Fall camping? Anyone else thinking of camping that weekend in NY?

We are heading to Southwoods RV Resort tomorrow. East of Buffalo, south of Rochester. This will be our first time there, but have heard a lot of good things about it. Will let you know.

It looks like NY is offering 50% discount on camping at Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence state campgrounds:
50% Off State Parks Camping and Vehicle Entrance Fees
To encourage visitors to explore New York's State Parks is offering 50% off new campsite reservations and vehicle entrance fees at more than 30 State Parks along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River for visits during August through Columbus Day. This applies to campsite stays that are made between August 1 and Columbus Day. Reservations made prior to August 1st do not qualify. Campsites only, minimum of two-night stay. Please note the discount will appear on payment screen and this promotion cannot be combined with any other discounts.

I think this is a good opportunity to explore a new state campground. :-)2017 Imagine 2150RB

Bryan, you might want to check Red Rock Ponds in Holley. It's a really nice campground, but at this point, you may not be able to get a site for Columbus Day weekend. We've been going there for almost as long as they've been open and really like it. Another one in that same area is Hickory Ridge in Fancher (Holley), same as Red Rock. It used to be the Brockport State land and is now a campground and GOLF COURSE (if you are a golfer - very nice!))

Why yes, I am a golfer. :-) I looked at their web site... very nice! But you're right, Columbus Day is pretty much full everywhere I've looked. I'm thinking maybe Four Mile Creek State Park near Niagara Falls for the Columbus Day week. That way if it rains or is cold, we could still go into Niagara Falls and a casino or two.
I think I'll start another thread about golf destination camping. I wonder if there is a group that does that?2017 Imagine 2150RB

I chose Four Mile Creek State Park for Oct 13-17, which is Sun-Thurs and includes Columbus Day. 50% discount for camping fees, so only $50 for 4 nights. We will be in site 265 in case you are in the area.
I was thinking of maybe visiting some wineries, maybe a casino, maybe Niagara Falls (free admission while camping, I think), there are museums and theaters too. I would also like to go into Canada and see Queenston Heights, where we think a Cass ancestor died in the War of 1812.
There's lots to do in the Niagara Falls area... here are some things to do while camping there:
