    Trailer totaled by tire

My daughter and son-in-law bought a used trailer last May in Saskatchewan and took it home to Winnipeg. The tires were not that old and had lots of tread, I made him measure them for my peace of mind. Well one of the tires had its tread come off like it was a retread but it didn't go flat and he didn't feel anything. The steel belts from the tire cut through everything including the floor. The kids did have insurance and today the insurance totaled their trailer.
I don't know the make of the trailer but it's a hybrid about 22'. I guess if something like this is going to happen the fall is the best time. Trailer are really discounted this time of year

Trying to add a 30 sec video without much success.

Sorry to hear that. Tires can be a bit of a crap shoot sometimes on trailers. Some pretty cheap ones out there that can cause a lot of problems. Hope that the insurance company treats them fairly and they can get another trailer for a good deal.

It's fairly common which is why I put aluminum tread plate under the fender wells on both of my RV's.

How did you fasten this to the bottom of the slideouts?

Here is the thread where I talked about doing it on my 220rk. Read a few posts into it and it will tell you what screws I used.

I've been contemplating (no pun intended) doing the same, but with stainless steel, I have a buddy in the industry and can custom cut the pieces. Did you attach with screws and adhesive by chance?

I ended up doing something similar after I had a tire blow out. I used sheet metal and painted black to blend in.

    Greetings!

My wife and I had our 2008 Shamrock 21SS totaled because of this EXACT same type of tire failure! Six month old Maxxis M8008 tires (from DOT code), and I am RELIGIOUS about torque, pressure, 303 Protectant and covering when stationary! Excess capacity aplenty too for the tires!

Curbside rear tire tread peeled off except for about 6", and the whipping tail devistated the camper in the time it took to move over from mid lane into shoulder. We were only traveling 50mph too! Ripped through the composite floor, the shower base, the vanity base, took out the water lines and drain pipe, the heater duct, and a ton of electrical. Ripped off the fender skirt, and the reason for total loss- destroyed the lower portion of the composite wall. Would have had to go back to factory for a rebuild at an boggling price! We had $100 deductible coverage and owned it outright and we made out ok. Really soured me that I had to fight Maxxis to cover that deductible for 7 mos too!
