I don't know where you live or how cold is cold.
Here in western Oregon; once in a while it gets below 32* in the night time. Sometimes a little colder. If it is going to be warming up soon and we are going to be heading out again, I will put the radiator heater in the pass thru set on 50*. Turn on the tank heaters and set the furnace to come on if the inside gets down to 40*. Everything will stay above freezing and ready to roll when needed. Thank you for your response. I will empty the water heater when I winterize. I live in Western NC. I am currently in Northeast FL visiting family in our RV for the holidays. I plan to leave it here for a month while I return home. Because they do occasionally have hard freezes, I want to make sure it's protected. I think I'm a little confused as to why the winterization process by passes the water heater if we have to empty it anyway. I'm thinking if the water heater is left on, it would not freeze up. Thanks again for your help. We've learned a great deal from all of you.

If you are leavin your rig for a month or so winterizing is a good idea. I winterize with air. I'll put a splash of RV anti freeze in the p traps, but not run the anti freeze in the pipes. I don't see any reason. A splash of water in the pipes will not bust them.
HERE is some great instruction. KENBackpacker and tent camper all my life, including BSA as a kid and adult.

The process bypasses the HWH because it is very hard to get the antifreeze out. THE HWH tank never completely empties. There will be a residual amount in it that would take forever to get rid of. DW absolutely does not want pink water ANYWHERE. Also, we purchased a TT from a friend several years ago. He had not used it for a couple of years and kept it in heated storage. He also never emptied the HWH (obviously he did not winterize) when we got it the Hot water smelled REALLY bad. I mean like flush, then sanitize TWICE bad.

That doesn't sound too pleasant. I ended up following winterizing instructions as per our GD manual, including emptying the HWH. With the exception of a hole in the hose we were using for the antifreeze, all went well. DH plans to flush the HWH when he does his annual maintenance.

Believe me - it wasn't, and we did not discover it till we were at the campground for the first time with the trailer. Had to go get bleach and get it sanitized. That was our 1st TT. Luckily we were camping with a large group of friends some of whom helped and some who "helped" in a manner of speaking....
