question on hooking up shunt for meter
Been looking and found a meter i want to try. A less expensive version of the Victron.
Can someone be specific on where to hook it up for load? I understand i have to have one side of the shunt go directly to the negative side of battery but in looking around battery area up front, not sure where to hook other side....
I also have an inverter tied directly to the battery, and that only goes to a couple outlets using extension cords etc.....
Pics would help.....
In looking up front there looks to be a bus bar but it has black and red wires on it.....hence my confusion. LOL

Hi Jim,
One side of the shunt connects to the negative battery post. Everything currently connected to the negative battery post goes to the other side of the shunt. This way, the shunt can measure all current that goes into or out of the battery from any load or source.

Watch this video from Victron, the same exact method to hook it up can be applied to the BMV and Shunt you are looking at on Amazon.

Thanks guys. Is the 100 amp shunt sufficient or for a few more bucks go with the 350 amp shunt?

I'm pretty sure that your VertaMax inverter can take 200 DC amps in so I would most definitely go with the 350.

Installed yesterday. Was able to keep shunt close to battery. I am going to do an experiment this weekend and mimic an overnight stop with no hookups. I want to see if amp hours counts down, amps both coming in and going out, battery soc shows both in discharging and using generator. etc......
My biggest use was being able to check soc while it charges back up from use....this will give me an idea of how long I need to run generator.Jim and Belinda H. Pa.
