We pull our Momentum 380, which I believe has the same 19,500 max as your 385, with a 6.7l Diesel F350 DRW. While we only have about 7k on the trailer since mid-year, we've been very pleased with the towing and performance thus far from the mountains of Colorado and across the plains to the Florida coast.

Hey Mike, enjoyed reading the posts on the new trucks...we will be looking in the next 12-24 months, and it's always great to get the feed back from end users. I was curious, do you live in your Momentum full time? My wife and I are planning to sell the house and go full time in a few years when I retire, and would like to go the Toyhauler route. Not sure if we will have an Ultra Classic, or Trike, but either way there will be a bike! We like the idea of being able to take day rides and explore, and I also like the idea of having a garage for tools etc...seems like everything we look at is designed to take all the kids out for the weekend and party, but none seem to have just two people living full time in mind...that's why I was curious if you were full time, and how the GD rig was working for you.
By the way, your map seems to be heavy weighted to the right coast...get out west and check out our great winter weather!Chuck and Kara

Hi All
Thanks for your reply on this and after a lot of thinking looking at trucks and forums on the web I have ordered a new F450! I will see how it will rides and will tow as it comes but may be change to a air ride system. I have one on the F550 and love the way it rides plus you can set the hight you need the back end to run at.
Delivery mid Feb and a trip to Orlando set for the end of the Month, will let you know how it works out. It just had to be a Ford!

The newer F450's will handle just about any RV's. And they should be a big improvement on the F550.
The older F550's were completely different trucks--2 ton trucks with straight front axles. They were used with utility bodies and service trucks mostly. Very few were used by any individuals that didn't work'em very hard.

Honestly, if you compare the F450 to the 3500 dually, you'll find that they're quite evenly matched. When I talked to one of the managers at the dealer that I bought my trailer from, and I was still deciding on which truck, he told me that more than 90% of the trucks that deliver to them are Rams with Cummins. The other 10% are evenly matched between Ford and Chevy. If you watch as you tow, and see what they guys who are pulling heavy pull with, again, you'll see it's weighted heavily towards the Ram. Today as we were coming east on I-40 heading home, We passed by a number of Pro Rodeo guys going westbound pulling their trailers. Of them, 95% of them were pulling Ram, and the other 5% split between F450 and Freighliner Class 7 rigs.
That was a deciding factor for me. The simplicity of the Cummins engine, the fact that I can pull into any truck service place, and they know how to work on the Cummins ISB. Either one does an amazing job.
