    Running a/c on batteries

You guys are actually way off.

    : )

The window unit runs on 3.5 amps at 120 VAC.
But when you run any AC device off an inverter using a DC power source (batteries) you multiply by 10.

This unit requires 35 amps to run off my battery bank through the inverter.
I was also running my Weboost and WiFi router, which together draw 3 amps, so let's just ignore those 3 amps for now, and focus on the 35 amps that was being "inverted" for the window unit.

    35 amps x 12 volts = 420 watts

The roof air which is 15,000 BTU requires 15 amps on 120 VAC or 150 amps running on an inverter.
So the window unit only requires about one FOURTH the power. It’s also much quieter.

    : )

I posted a video showing this information here:

You don’t need anywhere near what I have to run this window unit.
I just posted the video to point out the fact that you could run such a unit and have a/c while dry camping because a lot of folks think it’s impossible without a generator.
Matter of fact, an inexpensive lead acid battery, 600 watts of solar and a descent inverter would run it just fine.
You could do this on less than a thousand dollars worth of gear.
And when you’re not running the a/c the solar would easily keep your battery topped off.

Just upgraded my panels to 6 @ 1120 watts and my inverter to the 3000 watt Magnum Hybrid. Next up lithium batteries... I'm thinking two LifeBlue 300 amp hour each.

Now I have an extra Xantrex 2000 watt inverter and maybe 4 AGM fullriver 6 volt batteries.

I think you mean 1110 watts of solar?
Unless your panels are 186 watts each.

    Ahhhhh... that explains it!
    I have the same inverter.
I'm curious why you didn't go with the Victron like most other folks?

Because my two solar guys believe in Magnum, Brian Boone and Greg Young. And I found a used one.

I see, so no technical reason just a recommendation.
Same reason I have the same inverter.
But now I kinda wish I had done my own research, I might have gone with the Victron instead. I am learning to appreciate the Bluetooth display it has.

Are you planning on running air conditioning off your solar?

(Which is the subject of this thread)
