    Dometic Fridge not cool enough

So this is the second time out with the new camper. Three weeks ago we went to the mountains where it was cool and the fridge was fine. This weekend we’re in Charleston SC where it was 85 yesterday and we came back to see the fridge reading 44 degrees. Totally unsafe. 45 dollars of meats and cheeses trashed. This is the 4 door dometic and I bumped up the temp switch Up to 5 and it went up to 46. Not sure what is going on. Read various threads that say basically this fridge is crap. I’ll be on the phone with GD when I get home.

There are numerous threads for improving airflow over the cooling coils in the rear of the refrigerator. I personally installed two 5" 12 volt computer fans in the top vent of my 303. Since then my internal temps have remained between 32 and 38 degrees when outside temps were in the mid 90's. Do a search on this site and you can find a solution that works for you.

How long did you have it running when you checked it?

They go into a defrost cycle every so many hours (I forget the exact amount of time per manufacturer).

huntr70 is right. it goes into defrost mode every 48 hours. double check your manual. I would not have known this if my dealer didn't tell me.

    Look at my thread at

    https://www.mygrandrv.com/forum/show...very-one-needs

I've installed the fan mod and changed out the thermostat to the 85 degree switch instead of the factory 135 degree switch. My 4 door dometic doesn't get above 35 degrees on the hottest day.

I know it sucks spending more money on an expensive camper, but there is no other way to get the temps down.

I have read the mods post but you shouldn’t have to do this if they’d use a decent product. I never had any problems with the norcold in my 303. The fridge had been on for about 30 hours. The freezer was fine. We are home now so I’m going to leave it plugged in and see how it does. I’m also calling GD today. Thanks for the help.

Try moving the thermistor towards the middle and at the bottom of the fin. This worked for me.

If the freezer was fine, probably not a cooling problem. Make sure the flapper between the doors is closing all the way.

If you time the defrost cycle right you won't have a problem. The issue is when the defrost cycle happens during the hottest part of the day the temps in the fridge will jump. I didn't want to deal with this so I added the mods.

I agree with "offtohavasu" regarding the flap between the two doors. I had the same problem and had to remove a decal on the bottom between the doors that the flap was hanging up on. The decal caused the left door with the flap to not allow the flap to fully close. So, I also put a very thin washer under the left door to make sure the flap didn't drag on the lower door frame even with the decal removed. It worked and we don't have any problems anymore...

How do you know the flap isnt closing? I would think the right door wouldn’t snug up if the left door flap was hung up.
