Used the Walmart DEF in the jugs when our GMC had the DEF filler under the hood on the passenger side. Never had an issue. Made sure it was fresh and I purchased it only when needed. Since getting the Ford (DEF filler next to the fuel filler), I mostly fill the DEF tank when fueling up at Pilot for reasons cited above. I think I've used one or two jugs of Walmart DEF in the Ford when it was more convenient to fill the truck up on base/post when unhitched. Haven't had any problems with it in the PowerStroke, either.

Yep. Walmart DEF. I just check that the seal is intact before I pull it off the Walmart shelf.

    DEF pumps

Stuff gets cycled through like water on a hot day. Always fresh and 1/3 the cost.

Its too bad their diesel isn’t as competitively priced as the DEF. All of the above retailers are 20-60 cents higher for fuel then a surrounding fuel station. Unless of course one has a fistfull of discount cards, then it brings the price down to just 10-25 cents higher then the competition.

I use the DEF pump at the truck stops or BlueDEF.

They are far more expensive and that’s due to a couple of things
    1) volume of demand for the truckers. They have the market cornered
    2) they have additives and bio diesel blends in their fuel that others do not which is actually a good thing for these trucks
$2.20/gallon for the DEF though isn’t terrible. I’ll spend the extra $7-12/fill up on fuel so it usually washes out

First I’ve ever heard that these sellers have special blends/additives. Kinda hard to believe.

My understanding is that the reason their diesel is significantly higher then nearby competitors is due to pricing contracts they have with the big transportation outfits which results in much lower pricing. And to make up those profits, they jack up the pump prices for plain old joe’s like you and me who aren’t part of the cool crowd.

The Walmart DEF is manufactured in the same plant as the BLUE DEF and the other DEF found at the truck stops. Same stuff, different container, way less money.

Whatever is cheapest, so same for me as I have yet to see a better price than the Walmart brand, DEF is essentially cow piss, no need to overspend. I have also on occasion obtained DEF at truck stops. at the pump.

The most important thing to note is the turn over of product, Pilot fuel changes faster than any other supplier along with DEF. So I will pay more for the ease of refueling and convenience over cheaper product that I have no idea how long it has sat on the shelf.

You can join the “cool crowd” and get very good discounts at Loves, TA and others. Contact TSD Logistics. They have opened up their fleet program to RV’ers and hundreds, maybe thousands, of us have jumped on it and are getting anywhere from $.05 to $.50 or more a gallon discounts off the pump prices. It’s free to join. It’s real. It works.
