Good place to camp in Canada near Thousand Island NY area

We would like to visit Canada. This would be our first time and was thinking crossing at Thousand Islands, NY area.
Does anybody have and good locations they think would be good for first time visit?

Allen and Denise,

Check out the thread, “NY Group???” (8 threads below the stickies) in the group camp outs and rallies forum. In our initial planning, someone suggested a really nice CG in the Thousand Islands area. I know you said you wanted the Canadian side, but maybe staying here and taking day trips across the border might be less hassle (I’ve heard the COMING BACK part with the trailer can be tedious).

Wellesley Island is also a possibility on this side.

We really liked Swan Bay Resort, which is just on the US side of the bridge on I 81.

I'd also recommend Swan Bay Resort. Probably the nicest campground in the area. Right on the river and right in the middle of all the attractions. We've stayed at most of the campgrounds in the area, and Swan Bay is without a doubt the nicest, although the most expensive.

Avoid Ivy Lea campground unless you like engine Brake noises all night long... it’s right under the bridge. Also be wary of visiting any islands that are on the US side like Bolt Castle. They have a US customs officer booth on the island and you are expected to call back into Canadian customs when you re-enter Canadian waters. You’ll get a letter and be flagged if you don’t do it. As long as you call in when returning, your fine.
